Windows 10 security updates have ended. Now what?

Microsoft stopped regular support for Windows 10 in October 2025. Home users could sign up for one extra year of security updates, and that extra year ended in October 2026. Many business computers in Lethbridge are still running Windows 10, and they’re now becoming easier targets every month.

What “out of support” means

  • No more security fixes for newly discovered weaknesses, unless your business has paid for Microsoft’s extended updates.
  • Newer software and devices gradually stop supporting it.
  • Some cyber insurance policies and business partners now ask whether you’re running supported systems.

Your options

  • Upgrade to Windows 11 for free, if the computer meets Microsoft’s requirements. Many computers from the last five or six years do.
  • Replace computers that can’t upgrade. It’s usually the better choice for machines that are already slow or getting old.
  • Businesses can buy extended security updates for a limited time, as a bridge while they plan replacements.
  • For a computer that can’t be replaced right away, take it off the internet or limit it to one specific job, and keep it well away from email and web browsing.

What we’d suggest

Make a list of every computer, its age and whether it can run Windows 11. Then plan upgrades and replacements over the next few months, rather than all at once. We’re happy to check your machines and give you a straight answer on which are worth upgrading.
